For more than 20 years, Teresa’s career was focused on human resources and corporate benefits administration at all levels—from strategic to operational roles. She was integrally involved in areas such as employee relations, training, compliance and data management, health and welfare benefits, wellness initiatives, 401(k) administration, employee communications, staffing and employee development.
Throughout those years, as Teresa’s career evolved from entry level to high level management, her ultimate goal was to serve at the executive level. However, her carefully-executed career path was derailed. This gave her the opportunity to take a step back and assess: Who am I at my core? What are my strengths, beliefs, and values? What is most important to me? How did my actions contribute to the issues I encountered?
At this point, Teresa began working with an Executive Coach. She determined the best course of action was a “change of scenery”. Yet, even after continuing her career at a new company, she still sensed something was missing. Teresa sought out another Coach as she continued to explore her strengths, goals, and future career options.
During this discovery stage, Teresa realized that she could apply her human resources expertise in a new way. She decided to become a certified Transition Coach and was introduced to the Center for Coaching Excellence, where she completed the Associate Level program.
Teresa explains, “When I reflect on life, I realize that change is all around us—and it is happening at an ever-more hectic pace.” She adds, “People can wait for the change to happen to them and be left unfulfilled, or they can become the leaders of their own change. I am passionate about helping my clients through this process.”
Today, as President/Owner of Teresa DeBoer Coaching & Consulting, Teresa works primarily with individuals who are experiencing (or wish to experience) career transition. Her goal is to help them successfully navigate those changes to live a fulfilling professional life. She is also a certified trainer with the Center for Coaching Excellence.
In addition, Teresa works with organizations who understand the value of creating unique solutions to real life issues that impact their greatest asset – their employees. This, in return, benefits the organization’s bottom line. By showing how an organization values their employees with these unique strategies, she helps organizations set themselves apart from the pack by keeping the overall well-being of the employee in mind.
Teresa earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Huron University (Sioux Falls, SD). She holds professional certifications in Human Resources (PHR from 2000-2019; SHRM-CP from 2015-2018), the Myers-Briggs® assessment tool, and completed her Associate Program certification through an International Coach Federation accredited training organization, Center for Coaching Excellence. In addition, Teresa has been active in Toastmasters as both a member and officer; she has also volunteered with Junior Achievement since 2004.
